HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Rapid COVID-19 testing operations at the Arroyo Recreation Center have been extended through September, Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin announced Thursday.

CVS Health will continue rapid result COVID-19 testing at the Arroyo Center through September 30, Bronin said.

The testing site was previously scheduled to close on July 31.

Bronin encourages residents to take advantage of the extension period and to get tested.

"It's very quick. It's very easy. It's painless. I've done it. I encourage everybody to do it, because getting tested is a critical way to keep all of us safe," Bronin said.

According to Bronin, it takes about five minutes to get the test done and about 15 to 20 minutes to get the results. He also reminds residents that there is no prescription or insurance needed to get tested.

Bronin said about 200 rapid tests are done out of the Arroyo Center, which is currently the state's only rapid COVID-19 testing site.

Residents can call 860-757-9311 to schedule an appointment for testing at the site.

Connecticut State Conference of the NAACP President, Scot X. Esdaile, joined Bronin and announced the launch of a new public awareness campaign.

Esdaile said the campaign is focused around the importance of testing within Black and Brown communities. The campaign is supported by CVS Health, according to officials.
