MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTIC Radio) -- Manchester Police say a pair of accidents left six people injured Saturday afternoon.

The first accident took place around 1:30 p.m. in the area of 483 West Middle Turnpike. Three vehicles were involved, police said.

One driver was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extracated. She was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment. Another person was taken to Hartford Hospital with leg and head injuries. The third driver was transported to Manchester Hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

Officials say they believe the cause of the accident was related to drug or alcohol impairment. It remains under investigation.

A little over a half hour later, police say a vehicle went off the road in the area of Lake Street and East Middle Turnpike. It apparently struck a utility box off the road. One person was partially trapped, but later rescued, according to police.

All three occupants, including an 11-year-old child were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The road was shut down for crews to clean up before it re-opened around 3 p.m.
