(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - Voter turnout appears to be on the low side so far in municipal elections across the state.

According to numbers from the secretary of the state's office, turnout was at 8.3-percent as around 2:00 P.M.

Watchers say these elections, while most impactful to citizens directly, generally don't turn out the numbers that a gubernatorial or presidential election would see.

Key races include mayoral elections in the state's three largest cities--Bridgeport, Hartford and New Haven.

There are races for other local offices, as well, including city and town council, board of education and board of finance.

Polls are open until 8:00 this evening.
