(WTIC-AM) -- Groton City Police say one person is in custody, after an armed 49-year-old woman barricaded herself in a home on Morse Avenue early Friday, according to authorities.

People who live in the area of Morse Avenue west of Shepherd Street to Cutler Street and Benham Road were asked to shelter in place for a time. The order was lifted around 6:30 a.m.

Two schools in the area, Marine Science Magnet High School and West Side Middle School, started classes two hours late because of the standoff.

There is no word on the identity of the person who was taken into custody. Police were initially called to the scene around midnight, on a report that someone had violated a protective order.
