(WTIC-AM) -- Suffield Police today arrested the town's Superintendent of schools and the recreation supervisor for failing to report suspected child abuse.

Superintendent Karen Berasi and Recreation Supervisor Cynthia Fisher were both charged with failing to report abuse or neglect by a mandated reporter.

Police say the allegations against the two are unrelated.

Fisher has retired.

The two women turned themselves in at the Suffield Police Department.

They are due in Enfield Superior Court November 20.

Suffield police, school, and town workers are undergoing training on laws related to mandatory reporting of suspicion of child abuse.

A state Department of Children and Families social worker has been working with the Suffield Police Department since the start of October.

The police department says she has investigative responsibilities and will conduct mandated reporter training and serve on the town Juvenile Review Board diversion program.
