(WTIC-AM) -- A 17-year-old led police on a low-speed chase through two towns today.

After the pursuit ended, the teenager was taken into custody following a brief struggle.

He teen told officers that he had a bomb in the Ford Mustang he was driving.

East Windsor Police Detective Sergeant Matthew Carl says the chase began when officers spotted the teenager acting strangely at an insurance agency in South Windsor.

"There were multiple vehicles in the pursuit, they had him boxed in in a few areas, but he was able to drive across lawns and evade us," Carl said. "No vehicles were hit, and no officers were injured."

Several homes were evacuated, while the State Police bomb squad detonated a suspicious package in the Mustang.

Officers are still investigating whether it really was a bomb.

Police say the teenager was emotionally disturbed.  Police in South Windsor and East Windsor were familiar with the teen.
