MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (WTIC Radio) -  A Connecticut Native American tribe is reacting to the Killingly Board of Education's vote Wednesday night to bring back the "Redmen" mascot at Killingly High School.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation says it's disappointed by the 5-4 school board vote to bring back the mascot that many students and teachers find racist and demeaning to Native Americans.

While the tribe says it appreciates the board's move to develop a Native American-centered curriculum, it's asking the board to rethink the Redmen decision, saying it has no place in our school system.

Supporters insist the mascot honors Native Americans, and the town's history.
