(Storrs, Conn./WTIC) - UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley is recovering after undergoing surgery today.

The university says in a statement that Hurley underwent surgery to "relieve persistent neck and upper back discomfort".

The statement goes on to say the 46-year-old will spend a day or two in the hospital and then continue his recuperation at home.

The surgery was performed at the Center for Comprehensive Spine Care in New York City.

Hurley's recovery is not expected to affect his participation in practices that begin September 28 for the upcoming season.

The university says surgery was deemed the best course of action to alleviate a degenerative condition from which Hurley suffers.
