Verizon Store Robbed in Vernon

VERNON, CT (WTIC Radio)_ Police in Vernon are investigating a robbery that took place Friday night at 7:49 p.m. at the Verizon Store on Hartford Turnpike.

The clerk reported two men entered the store, armed with guns. They allegedly stole cell phones and cash, just before fleeing in a vehicle.

Police began looking for the suspect car and spotted it on Route 190 near Hall Hill Road in Somers.

Intiating a pursuit, the vehicle refused to stop and continued east on Route 190 and north onto Route 83. The suspected vehicle crashed on Route 83, north of Northwest Drive in Somers.

The suspects took off on foot. One was found near the vehicle. A K9 unit assisted in locating the second suspect outside a nearby house.

Both suspects were transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment of injures sustained during the crash.

The names of the suspects have been released, as 19-year old Shakiem Anthony Dessasure of Chicoppe, Mass and 31-year old Shane Sturgeon of Coventry were charged with host of offenses.  Most notably, those offenses include Larceny, Interfering with an Officer, Threatening, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and Robbery.  Dessaure has been released from the hospital, however, Sturgeon is still there in police custody.
