WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - An East Hartford man is under arrest, accused of trying to burglarize an occupied police cruiser in West Hartford early Thursday morning.

Police say the unmarked cruiser was parked on Jackson Avenue around half past midnight for the purpose of conducting surveillance related to recent burglaries in the area, when Sean Colgan, 38, pulled on the door handle of the cruiser.

To Colgan's surprise, an officer jumped out of the vehicle and arrested him, said police. Colgan is charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for violation of probation, said police.

Police say they are investigating whether Colgan might be involved in other burglaries in the area.
