Yantic Fire Displaces Six

  NORWICH CONN-THE RED CROSS IS ASSISTING 6 PEOPLE AND SEVERAL PETS WHO WERE DISPLACED WHEN A FIRE BROKE OUT IN THE YANTIC SECTION OF NORWICH SUNDAY AFTERNOON.YANTIC DEPUTY CHIEF BJ HERZ TELLS WTIC NEWS THE FIRE DAMAGED A 3 UNIT APARTMENT BUILDING. HE SAYS NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. HOWEVER A CAT AND A DOG WERE KILLED IN THE BLAZE. FIREFIGHTERS FROM ALL UNITS IN NORWICH RESPONDED TO THE 2 ALARM FIRE, WHICH APPARENTLY STARTED IN A KITCHEN ON THE SECOND FLOOR. NORWICH MAYOR PETER NYSTROM HAPPENED TO BE DRIVING PAST WHEN HE SAW THE SMOKE. HE KNOCKED ON DOORS IN THE BUILDING TO ALERT RESIDENTS TO THE FIRE. HERZ SAYS THE CAUSE REMAINED UNDER INVESTIGATION SUNDAY EVENING.
