BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — City officials in Connecticut say newly installed light fixtures which cost hundreds of thousands to install are filling up with rainwater.

Bridgeport Councilman Peter Spain said over the weekend that about 10 of the 100 newly installed lights he saw personally were leaking with water. The Connecticut Post reportsthe city Office of Planning and Economic Development, which oversaw the no-bid lighting installation, confirmed Monday that "several" of the fixtures have moisture and water issues.

City officials last summer moved ahead with the emergency replacement of 110 decorative light poles. The entire $543,195 project was completed in early December.

The lighting project has since come under close scrutiny from the City Council due to the high costs of the project.
