(New Haven, Conn.WTIC) - More details have been released regarding the shooting of a 9-year-old New Haven boy Tuesday evening.

Police say they were notified of shots fired at Foote and Ashmun Streets by Shotspotter just before 7:00 p.m.

Investigators say the child was playing basketball at a court near his home when other kids joined in.

One of them stole the ball from the boy, according to police.

He and his father searched the Dixwell neighborhood and were later joined by his mother as they traveled on Foote Street.

A little while later, police say shots were fired at the family vehicle and the boy was struck in the pelvis.

He was taken for treatment at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital.

New Haven Police urge anyone with any information to contact the detective bureau at (203) 946-6304.
