GRISWOLD, Conn. (AP) — Police in Connecticut are investigating the theft of 2 ½ tons of copper cable worth $4,500 from a former industrial site.

Authorities say more than 2,100 feet of cable was cut from various areas inside the Wyre Wynd Corp. in the Jewett City section of Griswold on Sunday.

Police say the thieves caused about $30,000 in damage to the building.

Tracks in the snow led investigators to believe the suspects parked a truck nearby and access the building through a gate. Investigators also say the suspects used a forklift to reach the wire cables located 25 feet off the floor.

Police have not identified any suspects.

The investigation is ongoing.
