HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - A power outage left downtown Hartford in the dark for several hours last night.

A raccoon that went up against a transformer Wednesday evening left much of downtown Hartford in the dark. The city lost power shortly after 8pm.

Hartford police warned motorists to exercise caution on the roads, since some traffic lights were not working. Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin applauded the response from Eversource, who were able to restore power around 10pm.

As for the raccoon, it did not survive the incident.
