Southington Man Killed after Large, Lightning Struck Tree Limb Falls on Vehicle

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTIC) – A Southington man has succumbed to his injuries after a large tree limb landed on the vehicle he was driving on 3595 Park Avenue in Fairfield.

Authorities say calls came in around 5:15 Wednesday afternoon and responding officers found Jarrod Marotto, of Southington unconscious in the driver’s seat.

The 21-year old was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead by hospital staff.

An initial investigation revealed that Marotto was driving southbound on Park Avenue when a large limb from a Cottonwood tree was struck by lightning and fell – striking the vehicle on the driver side.

Marotto was the only occupant of the vehicle and the Fairfield Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigation the incident.
