HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - The state Department of Revenue Services officially began accepting online returns for the 2018 tax year on Tuesday, despite the month-long partial shutdown of the federal government.

Commissioner Scott Jackson says it's business as usual at the State Tax Department.

"I know a lot of people have some concern about what they've heard about the Internal Revenue Service, and what the shutdown meant in terms of backlogs. But I want to assure the taxpaying community here in Connecticut that the IRS shutdown has had no impact on our operation."

The tax filing deadline is April 15th.
