MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) — Utility companies are working to restore power to several thousand Connecticut customers after a string of powerful storms rolled through the state.

The weather system that brought thunderstorms, heavy rain and winds Thursday morning is also expected to impact much of New England during the day.

The National Weather Service has posted a flash flood watch for portions of central Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine.

Some communities in Connecticut reported more than an inch of rain from the storms.
