HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - Wal-Mart pharmacy has become the first in Connecticut to sync its pharmacy data system with the state's prescription drug monitoring program.

Lora Rae Anderson with the Department of Consumer Protection says the integration saves steps for the medical community and allows them to spend more time talking to their patients, and see more information. She says this can help alert pharmacists about potential drug interactions, and provides an additional safeguard against doctor shopping.

Connecticut Children's Medical Center and Yale New Haven Hospital have previously synced their data systems with the state's program. More pharmacy chains are working on integration.
