At Home CT 2/3/19

WTIC Public Affairs
Saturday, February 9th
Major Roger Dupree of the Salvation Army and Brenda Downing, Social Services Director for the Salvation Army. We discussed the Army's work and emphasized is continues year round, not just during the holiday season. Roger discussed the shelter and triage services the army performs during the coldest of weather. Families and children are housed at Marshall House if space permits and if it is full they are housed at a hotel for the night while funding is available.

Single men and women are housed at the Willie Ware Community Center.

People are provided with tables, chairs, blankets and access to rest rooms and non-perishable foods. No household is turned away unless they pose a safety risk to themselves or others.

The holiday fundraising effort once again benefited from the WTIC Holiday Store to benefit the Salvation Army. In greater Hartford 1,700+ children and 2,700+ individuals were assisted thanks to the holiday effort.
